Explosions shook the Ukrainian capital Kyiv as Russia attacked the city throughout the night.
Overnight Russian strikes hit Kyiv

According to officials in Kiev, no one was hurt and the majority of the missiles were shot down, but some did damage "important infrastructure," resulting in a blackout across the whole region.

Online images show firemen battling a significant blaze at a power station.
It happens as Belarus is getting ready for Russian President Vladimir Putin to meet with his counterpart... Alexander Lukashenko.
While nighttime assaults on Kiev are unprecedented, this recent onslaught of Russian missile attacks is the third in five days.

According to Serhiy Popko, the chief of the military administration in Kiev, 23 Iranian missiles were launched, and 18 of them were shot down.Authorities said that only two individuals were hurt, which is a fairly small figure given that many people would have been asleep when the strikes on civilian areas occurred.

Vitaliy Klitschko, the mayor of Kiev, stated on Telegram that engineers were trying to restore electricity as "important infrastructure facilities were destroyed."
Winter has arrived in Ukraine, and Kyiv often experiences below-freezing temperatures.

In one of the biggest airstrikes on the city since the war began last Friday, Russia fired a volley of missiles. Kiev has charged Moscow of using winter as a weapon by striking its energy networks and other civilian infrastructure.Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, issued a warning over the weekend that Russia may be preparing a significant ground offensive early in the next year utilizing Belarus as a launching platform.

However, other analysts have questioned whether Moscow would be able to launch a fresh offensive during the winter because they claim to have observed no indications of preparations for one so far.

Alexander Lukashenko is a strong supporter of President Putin, and Belarus has borders with both Russia and Ukraine.

Despite not actively participating in the conflict, Belarus did let Russian soldiers to utilize its soil to begin the invasion in February. Moscow is putting more and more pressure on Minsk to increase its participation in the so-called "special military occupation."The Russian defense ministry has declared that its forces stationed in Belarus will perform joint military exercises, which will increase Kyiv's fears of a new incursion as the two presidents get ready to meet in Minsk.
President Zelensky stated that defending Ukraine's borders is always a priority and that he is setting up defenses for all contingencies in his nightly speech on Sunday.
