Senator Dianne Feinstein suffered from brain inflammation.

According to her office, the oldest member of the US Senate acquired encephalitis, a brain inflammation, after suffering from shingles and being unable to serve on a vital committee.
According to her office, Dianne Feinstein, 89, also acquired Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which can induce facial paralysis.
Senator Dianne Feinstein suffered from brain inflammation.

The encephalitis cleared up on its own, but she still has Ramsay Hunt syndrome, according to the statement.
... She returned to Washington on May 10 after nearly three months away.
After being diagnosed with shingles in late February, the California Democrat was hospitalized to the hospital and later healed at home in San Francisco.
According to her office, "the senator previously disclosed that she had several complications related to her shingles diagnosis."
"Those complications included Ramsay Hunt syndrome and encephalitis," the statement continued.
"While the encephalitis resolved itself shortly after she was released from the hospital in March," the statement said, "she continues to have complications from Ramsay Hunt syndrome."
According to CNN, her aide's comment contradicted the senator's own words on Thursday. Ms Feinstein denied having encephalitis, telling the network that "it really has never been diagnosed properly" and that "it was really the bad flu."
According to the Mayo Clinic, encephalitis can cause personality changes, convulsions, disorientation, and vision or hearing difficulties.
Other well-known people who have been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome include Canadian music singer Justin Bieber. The nature of Ms Feinstein's shingles issues were previously unknown.
She came in the Capitol last week in a wheelchair, which her office claimed may be necessary at times now due to her decreased vision and balance as a result of her illness.
Her physicians had encouraged her to work "a lighter schedule," according to the statement.
When she returned, the Senate Judiciary Committee applauded her and confirmed three of President Joe Biden's judicial nominations.
Because the committee only has a one-seat Democratic majority, her absence has slowed its efforts to confirm federal judges.
Members of her own party have spearheaded calls for her resignation, claiming she is unable to represent her constituency.
She is not running for re-election in 2024, and numerous Democratic members of Congress, including Barbara Lee, Katie Porter, and Adam Schiff, have already declared their intentions to succeed her.
