Crisis administrations were called to the scene at the intersection of Field Shut down and Clydach Street in Morriston.
One property has been totally smoothed with Grains and West Utilities portraying the primary harm as "extreme".
A neighbor at the scene revealed a kid being pulled from the rubble.The Public Framework's site said 212 properties were without power and Swansea chamber pioneer Loot Stewart said around 100 individuals had been uprooted.
"One home is totally obliterated, another has been essentially harmed," he said.
"Somewhere around 20 to 30 properties are impacted inside the cordon."
South Ribs Police said it was attempting to find the missing individual and a rest community had been positioned to help those impacted.

residing on the road said they heard an uproarious bang which seemed like a fender bender, with rooftops and entryways being brushed off houses.
Neighbor Pamela Christine Evans said the impact felt like a bomb.
"It's like a disaster area, it's inconceivable down there," she said.
"Windows have been crushed, entryways have been blown out."Fellow occupant Marjorie Lewis said: "The rooftop was all on the floor and there was a kid in the rubble."
She said the kid was pulled from the destruction, adding: "I called the police when it worked out - they were here in a few minutes. It sounded awful - it shook every one of the houses."
Ms Lewis said around four or five houses had been harmed in the impact.
Mum-of-four Kakuli Khatun was making tea for her better half while her lounge area window crushed.
The 36-year-old said: "I thought it was inside the house. I just took my most youthful child and ran.
"I went out the house and saw the harm. It's horrendous."
Swansea councilor Ceri Evans said he resides under a pretty far and was telecommuting at the hour of the blast.
"The entire house shook. Every one of the windows shook, it was truly observable. You could hear it and I ran out in the road," he said.South Grains Police requested that individuals keep away from the area and said encompassing streets had been shut down.
"Crisis administrations are working at the scene, and we are asking that individuals keep away from the area so we can manage this episode," a representative said.
The power said more detail would be given when it had a more clear picture.
Ribs and West Utilities said the firm was working with crisis administrations to make the region safe.
"We don't yet know the reason for the blast and our designers will keep on supporting the crisis administrations as they complete their work," a representative added.
Welsh Emergency vehicle Administration and Mid and West Ridges Fire Administration additionally joined in.
"Teams from Morriston, Swansea West, Neath, Gorseinon and Port Talbot were called to an episode in Morriston following a few reports of a gas blast," the fire administration said.
Morriston Town AFC football club said it was "crushed" to hear the news and said local people shouldn't hold back to contact the club and come in to keep warm.
