Teachers to strike in UK

National strikes are planned for the first of February, as well as the 15th and 16th of March. There are other regional dates.

The NEU is the UK's largest education union, and the strike will affect 23,400 schools in England and Wales, according to the NEU.
Gillian Keegan, the Education Secretary, has stated that she will meet with union representatives... later this week.
According to Department of Education regulations, head teachers are obligated to take "all reasonable means" to keep schools open for as many students as possible during a strike.Meanwhile, head teachers in England will not strike after the NAHT union's referendum failed to exceed the legally mandated 50% turnout level.
Because of claimed disruption caused by postal strikes, the union claims it is contemplating re-running the poll.
However, NAHT members in Wales will go on strike after the poll there received the requisite turnout. National and regional teacher strikes will take place in schools and sixth-form institutions.

Action will take place on the following days:

  • 1 February: All schools in England and Wales
  • 14 February: All schools in Wales
  • 28 February: North and north-west England, Yorkshire and Humber
  • 1 March: East Midlands, West Midlands, and the NEU's eastern region
  • 2 March: South-east and south-west England, and London
