According to reports, air defenses fired down the drone, but the victims of the midnight attack were caused by falling debris.

The airbase, which houses strategic bombers, was the target of a similar strike, according to Russia, on December 5. The facility is located around 500 kilometers (310 miles) northeast of the Ukrainian border.

The military of Ukraine has not formally responded to the strikes.

The Ukrainian drone was shot down by Russian air defenses, according to the Russian defense ministry, at around 01:35 local time on Monday (22:35 GMT Sunday).

It continues that drone debris injuries claimed ...the lives of three Russian service members.Videos of what appear to be explosions and air sirens at the Engels airstrip were previously circulated on social media.

The mayor of Engels claimed there was "no threat to citizens" of the town itself.

Moscow claimed that three personnel were also killed by drone debris in the earlier alleged attack on the airport and another air facility in the Ryazan area on December 5th. There was minor damage to two planes.
Regarding the alleged strikes, the Ukrainian military remained silent.

Since Moscow began its full-scale invasion on February 24, Russia has frequently utilized the Engels air station to undertake missile strikes on a variety of targets in Ukraine. The Kremlin has previously accused Ukraine of striking Russian territory, but the purported strikes in December are allegedly more invasive.

The purported strikes, according to a number of military analysts in the West and Ukraine, were embarrassing for the Russian military.
